Nurse Ratchet
Nurse Ratchet represents sanity because she is the one who is in charge of all of the “crazy” people. Nurse Ratched is kind of a bitch and she is mean to Patrick, I think that she knows that he is normal but she just wants to get at him. I find the medicine that Nurse Ratchet gives to have too much power. I think it is a hardcore drug. Nurse does not care about the lives of her inmate because she mean. The whole mental hospital is corrupt. The glass between the workers and the inmates is a barrier between the sane and the insane. I disliked Nurse Ratchet more and more throughout this movie. She thought that she was better than everyone else. I felt bad for all of the characters is the movie when Nurse Ratchet is around. RPM is just a badass and he does not give a shit about what people think. He is a criminal who plead insane so he did not have to go to jail. He has a nice side to him though because he cares about the people in the mental hospital.
Nurse Ratchet represents the “normal” people in the world. She is above all of the patients in the ward and is somewhat of an authority figure for most of the patients. However, she does not have authority over Randall. Nurse Ratchet had authority over her patients before Randall came because the patients all believed that they were crazy and relied on Nurse Ratchet to help them. When Randall came, he showed the patients that they were perfectly normal if they had the confidence to believe it. Nurse Ratchet became upset with Randall because he put the confidence and power in the patients to rule over Nurse Ratchet. I also think nurse ratchet is very feminine and “soft.” She seems to become easily upset with Randall when he challenges what she says. By doing this, Randall takes the power away from the nurse and instills it in the patients.
ReplyDeleteRandall represents confidence and power in my eyes. Whether he is truly crazy or not, he does an amazing job of taking the power away from the nurse and putting confidence in the patients to become “normal.” Randall creates the opportunity to show the nurses that he is normal, but decides to help the other patients in the ward instead. I think he tried to act crazy in front of the nurses just so he could remain there and help to better the other patients. Nurse Ratchet decides to do electroshock therapy to Randall in an attempt to control his actions. This only fuels Randall to cure the other patients and leads to him escaping. He outwitted the guard and invited girls into the ward for the night. He helped the other patients gain the confidence to be normal, and that is the most important role Randall played.
The relationship between the two is very shaky. It is unstable because Nurse Ratchet knows Randall is not insane, but cannot prove it well enough to get him out. Randall makes her upset because he is the first one to challenge her and go against what she says. He is the first patient with the confidence to stand up to her, which is shown in the scene about the World Series. Nurse Ratchet became upset with him throughout the novel because he cured her patients with power by showing them how normal they can be. The patients started to gain respect from each other and build their bond. Overall, Nurse Ratchet and Randall had a troubled relationship, which was very important to make Randall’s plan work.
