What does it mean for someone to be insane?

One of the themes in the movie is insanity. All of the guys in the mental home are just insane. They are there for the craziest reasons. When Randall first arrives at the place, he is very hyper. He wants to talk to everyone, even the Chief who is deaf! His appearance is disheveled and he had about 6 assaults and arrests. He does 'too much fighting and f**king" says the head of the place. He is considered to be insane because he is not like common everyday people. He wants to cause trouble and be different. Another one of the characters in the movie is Billy Bibbit. He is super shy and has a stutter. He is afraid of his mom and did not tell her that he was going to propose to the love of his life. He is afraid of the outside world and is currently placed in this hospital by his mother because she controls him. The next character the shows the definition of insanity is Cheswick. In one of the scenes in the movie, the group of 11 men are sitting around in a circle with Nurse Ratchet and they are talking about their problems. Cheswick shares his opinion about one of the other guys stories and he gets bombarded with criticism. He breaks down and becomes very scared of the other men. He cannot deal with people and their emotions. He is insane because of the way he flips out and reacts towards certain situations. The theme if insanity can be shown through any of the characters in this movie besides the women. This has to do with another theme in the movie and it is that the women in the movie over power the men and take control.
